The days continue to be very hot and dry! My husband put on his facebook status last night that he tried to water the yard but the water kept evaporating before it hit the ground!! Really, I did water the yard yesterday but the ground was so dry that you couldn't tell what area the sprinkler had covered. Needless to say, it has been tough on my garden.
I wanted to share the exciting news of bees, blossoms, and babies!! This little guy has been doing his job!
And I now have these!!!
My cantaloupe vines are full of baby cantaloupe. My family is tired of me dragging them out to the garden to celebrate the big event!! But... I knew that all of you would want to celebrate the occasion with me!! To enjoy more wonderful garden events, check out An Oregon Cottage's Tuesday Garden Party! Have a blessed day!

Non-gardening people always miss the important stuff. :-) It's fun to see the little melons beginning to form, and I hope you do well with them!
ReplyDeleteThanks, EG, your blog has encouraged me! I can do this! I can do this!! (A reminder for when people look at me like I am crazy for trying to grow my cantaloupe on a trellis!)
ReplyDeleteIt is looking good!! I can not wait til my cantaloupe start sprouting!!

Yum! My favorite part of gardening is seeing the new things grow! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteBrianne and zentmrs, thanks for visiting my blog!
ReplyDeletei love the role that bees play in nature. i'm trying to teach my kids the difference between bees and wasps/hornets (which are terrifying to them!).
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your little babies!
ReplyDeleteWow! SO exciting!
ReplyDeletevisiting from the Garden Party :)
Ana, if your kids are like mine ALL FLYING INSECTS LOOK THE SAME and THEY DON'T WANT TO GET CLOSE ENOUGH TO SEE THE DIFFERENCE! It is like most people around here - The only GOOD snake is a DEAD snake.
ReplyDeleteRobin, I knew this group would be excited with me over my babies!! Now... unlike my kids, I want these babies to grow quickly!!
Candi... Welcome to my blog. Thanks for visiting.
Just stopping by from Tuesday's Garden Party. So how much room does your cataloupe take up? I'd like to give it a try, but don't want it to take over the whole garden. happy gardening!!!
ReplyDeleteOtt, A.... In my square foot garden, the cantaloupe take up and area that is 1 x 4 and I grow them on a trellis. Look at this blog entry.

Oh, WOW! Those are so cute! The bees haven't been doing their jobs around here. Maybe that will change once it dries up some. I get the same "are you weird or what" kinda response from my husband. The kids are excited with me.
ReplyDeleteTosha, hopefully, the bees will get busy soon at your place. If not, I received some great advice in the comment section on this blog post on how to pollinate the blossoms yourself:

Don't you love it when that happens? I still get a kick out of all the magical growth from plants- it's just still a mystery and miracle to me, AND such a great picture of some of God's amazing designs!
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking this up to the Tuesday Garden Party.
Jami, thanks for visiting my blog. I have enjoyed reading all the links to the Tuesday Garden Party. I am always in awe of God's amazing designs. I know that I can plant, water, feed, and do all the right things but only God can create the miracle of the seed growing and producing fruit.
ReplyDeletePost more updates on upcoming TCP because I would love to see how your cantaloupe grows. I had two volunteer plants come up in my front gardening bed last year (they came from my compost pile) but it didnt' have enough time to grow and mature into full cantaloupe plants. I would love to see how you grow yours!
ReplyDeleteShannon, thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment, I plan to keep posting. This is my first year to grow cantaloupe on the trellis. I can't wait to see how the season goes. They seem to be thriving in our heatwave!
